Annan District of Tainan City with a vast territory, and adjoins Yongkang City and Anding Township on its east side, and Zengwun River, Sigang and Cigu Townshiop on its north side, and extends to Taiwan Strait on its west side. It adjoins Anping, and central west and north districts of this City as delimited by Yanshuei River. It occupies an area of 107.2 square kilometers, which accounts for three-fifths of the whole area occupied by this City. It is not only the largest administrative district of this City but also the district occupying the largest area in all provincial cities throughout Taiwan Province. The agricultural land, fish farm, science parks and wildlife protective zones in the whole District total 2,684 hectares, 3,012 hectares, 709 hectares and 523.848 hectares respectively, in addition to communities, roads, rivers and land used for the cemetery.
This District was situated along the remote coast and developed agriculture and fishery only, the infrastructure always fell behind in this District before it was included in any urban plans. Owing to the government’s dedicated development in this District in recent years, the roads have been developed gradually and have become more and more convenient, e.g. development of national highway No. 8 (Anji Road), Beian Road, costal roads (Anming Road), Sihcao Avenue, Luermen Avenue, No. 9 highway of 2nd degree and No. 7 highway of 2nd degree (to be developed), and science parks. Meanwhile, the government lifted the restriction on construction for 500 hectares and introduced Annan School of National Cheng Kung University and lots of private colleges to be incorporated in this District (Leader University and Hsing Kuo University of Management), and many large-size temples located inside this District attracted people from other places. Therefore, the population of this District has been increasing day by day. For the time being, this District has 51 villages, 937 neighborhood units, 53 social development associations, 20 community activity centers, 18 village activity centers, 60 temples and 4 churches. Additionally, in consideration of the vast territory in this District and the City Government’s orientation towards the development of “technology, ecology, religion and learning”, the future development in this District can be expected soon.
This District has fruitful natural ecological resources and all of supervisors are dedicated to planning and investing in this District. This District is believed to be suitable for the development of tourism, technology and industry, and is able to provide the fine-quality learning and residing environment. We will establish this District as a modern city for technology, ecology, religion and learning to preserve our own culture and also hold the view of globalization.
