Annan District was an agricultural district during the Japanese Occupation, and the agricultural products were primarily sugarcane and corn. In recent years, farmers have started to plant muskmelons and cherry tomatoes, and the dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus) here is very famous. The fishery in this District was categorized as “inshore fishing” and “aquatic farming”. The inshore fishing operation was conducted in two fishing ports, Luermen Fishing Port and Sihwubao Fishing Port. The aquatic farming was primarily conducted in the fish farm situated in Sihcao, Siangong, Tucheng and Syuejialiao specialized in breeding shrimps, milk fish and groupers. In order to meet farmers’ and fishermen’s associations’ development of delicate products, this District promotes mechanical operation to save manpower and decrease costs, and prevents insects to increase the production, proceeds with joint transportation and marketing of products to stop the middlemen’s exploitation and to upgrade the beneficial result, promotes home workmanship and side jobs, and improves varieties, technology and operating manners to increase the income and improve life quality. Tainan Technology Industrial Park is situated on two sides of Luermen River, occupying an area of 709 hectares and an intelligent industrial park. The industries to be introduced into the Park include the telecommunication, information industry, software industry, consumptive electronics industry, semi-conductor industry, precision machinery industry, automated industry, aerospace industry, high-quality materials industry, special chemicals industry, and pharmaceutical, medical treatment, biological, health care, pollution prevention and optoelectronics industries. The transportation in this District is very convenient (closely adjoining No. 17 Highway, and linking to Sun Yat-Sen Expressway, Southern 2nd Highway and Provincial Route No. 1 through National Highway No. 8). The well-founded infrastructure, fruitful human resources and fine-quality living space are integrated into the Park where production, ecology and life co-exist. We believe that more opportunities for employment will be created upon completion of the development in this District.
