Sihcao Foretress (Chenhai City)

The fortress was built during the Optimum War of 1840. At that time commander Yao, Ying of Taiwan suggested the Ching Court to build a defensive fortress at each of the 17 ports along Taiwan coast to prevent the British troop from invading Taiwan. Sihcao Fortress was one of these fortresses.

Animal Preserve Area

Located in the south of Luermen River in the open waters of Taijiang or Nanshan (the name of the islands in Anping and Cikunshen), Sihcao, also known as Beishanwei in the past, was part of the inland sea and got this name because it used to abound with beach naupaka (scaevola sericea Vahl).

With the end of its service as a natural harbor, Taijiang’s vitality saw it gradually turn into a beautiful ecological garden. Together with the development of new high-technology district, this has led to the emergence of the new Taijiang City, the only smart city in Taiwan combining technology, ecology and culture.

Annan District Tour Routes

The Annan District is situated between Yanshuei River and Zengwun River. It is the largest of Tainan’s six administrative districts. Annan’s Luerman was where Koxinga first set foot on Taiwan, and his successful landing made Luerman famous overnight. The waters of Luerman River are also a testament to the geological changes that have occurred in Taijiang over the centuries.
