The "Mountains to Sea National Greenway" is a greenway that runs from the altitude of 0K in the Taijiang area to the Yushan trailhead at 3952K. Since 2007, the Taijiang Branch of the Tainan City Community University has organized the "Love Your Hometown, Protect Your Water" activity held in May every year, transforming it into a "cultural, historical, scenic and ecological" greenway concept. It is a local initiative that links the cultural circles of the Tsou, Siraya and Han peoples, and features characteristics of the drainage basin flowing from the mountains to the coast. It aims to advocate walking from the entrance of your house to Yushan, Taiwan’s highest peak. The greenway is planned to run from Taijiang National Park through the century-old Chiannan Canal, tracing its source to Wushantou Reservoir and Yoichi Hatta Memorial Park. The the greenway transfers to Route 174, crosses Wushan Ridge, and then reaches Zengwen Reservoir. It then crosses Zengwen Reservoir to Dapu Township, Chiayi County, continuing along Provincial Highway 3 that traverses along Chashan, Danayi Valley, Lijia, transfers to Lijia Industrial Road to Dabang, follows Tefuye Historic Trail to Zizhong, then connects to Provincial Highway 18 to Tatajia, before finally arriving at Yushan Trailhead.
The Tainan Mountains to Sea National Greenway is a greenway along the great Chianan Canal, which is suitable for cyclists to experience the beauty of "mountain", "sea" and "canal" all in one. It connects the Wushantou Reservoir and the Yoichi Hatta Memorial Park in the upstream and the Taijiang National Park in the downstream, forming a 45-kilometer long greenway with a drainage basin of 225 hectares, rich in history, humanistic culture, drainage basin features and ecology. This video introduces the 15-kilometer route along Annan District, starting from the shady greenway lined with Chinese tallow trees on both sides of the National Museum of Taiwan History, and passing through temples, shopping streets (passing by), scientific and industrial areas, ecological reserves, wetlands, and the Taijiang National Park at the estuary. There are dense trees on the way to provide good shade and separate lanes for bikes from general traffic, which can ensure the safety of cycling. Along the way, you can see fishing farms or oyster farms, reflecting the unique humanistic landscape of the area, which is dominated by the aquaculture industry. When you pass the Western Coastal Highway (Provincial Highway 17), this indicates that you will soon reach the end point of the Mountains to Sea National Greenway. There is a viewing platform for visitors to enjoy the scenery of the open estuary and to marvel at the Taijiang National Park on the other side of the river. Visitors might be able to spot egret nests in the mangrove area and the nesting scene after hunting for food. You will surely fall in love with this eco-friendly slow travel and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the mountains and sea as well as urban and rural landscapes in Greater Tainan.
